General Information

• Through its programs, Eastern Mediterranean University 's Faculty of Architecture trains innovative professionals and academics who have a contemporary approach to architecture while simultaneously being aware of local and environmental values and assets.
• The Faculty adopts a holistic educational system which combines theory and practice: Within this framework, courses are actively supported through drawing studio work, seminars, theoretical courses and laboratory work.
• In its recent updates, the Faculty has made an effort to reduce students' course work in favor of a curriculum which involves an interdisciplinary approach, based on choice, and allows for greater flexibility in terms of course work, thus becoming compatible with international educational standards in the field. These updates have contributed to a more pleasant learning environment where research and social activities are more prominent. The freshman year for existing programs as well as those in the planning stage has been unified, thereby strengthening the potential for inter-departmental cooperation and facilitating student transfer between departments.
• Great care is taken to ensure that teaching staff reflect their research and practical experience in the classroom. Educational opportunities provided to students through seminars, conferences, and other similar activities where scientists and professionals from various countries and organizations share their knowledge and experience, and off-campus activities such as analyses in urban environments and professional field trips provide students with interdisciplinary technical skills interwoven with environmental, economic, and social values.
• In the implementation of educational programs, the imparting of knowledge and information is aided by the use of modern tools and methods and students are encouraged to internalize a participatory approach.

About the Faculty

The Departments of Architecture and Interior Design of the Faculty of Architecture offer four-year undergraduate and graduate (Master's and PhD) programs. The Faculty employs 40 full-time PhD holders and 13 full-time senior instructors. Research is greatly emphasized and faculty members conduct personal research as well as participating in research projects in collaboration with other institutions. Departments are cooperating with local authorities and the central government on a variety of research and practical projects, and fulfill guiding and advisory roles as necessary. The Urban Research and Development Center (URBAN R&D-KENT-AG), which functions under the umbrella of the Faculty, has undertaken to contribute to research, education and environmental development on an urban scale, while the Design and Research Center (DERES-TASAR) ensures that professional applications are implemented.

Numerous graduates of the Faculty of Architecture are currently employed in North Cyprus, Turkey , and other countries in various organizations and businesses. Another group of alumni are successfully pursuing Master's and PhD programs in Turkey , the USA , Australia , the UK , Germany and Spain .

Educational Objectives

• To train architects who would execute buildings and groups of buildings of various sizes in compliance with contemporary norms, and interior designers who would apply the same principles in their concepts.
• To apply a holistic educational system combining theory and practice and thus equip graduates with the skills and flexibility they will need to better adapt to a variety of working environments.
• To provide graduates with a contemporary and innovative understanding of and approach to design that is also sensitive to local and environmental values while making full use of the available technological opportunities.
• To conform to international standards of education through our interdisciplinary curriculum also incorporating choice and flexibility.
