Syrian Delegation at EMU Syrian businessmen, private sector representatives and journalists visited Eastern Mediterranean University. During the visit, Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Güven and Vice-rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri made a presentation so as to enlighten the delegation on the university.
Rector Guven gave detailed information at the University Senate Hall where he said EMU gave education at international standards in an English medium of instruction. Güven also added EMU was a campus university and a full member of the EUA thus making it possible for students who attend EMU to receive education at international standards. Rector Güven mentioned his visit to Syria and to University of Damascus which trained most of the scientists in the Arab world. He also explained that students coming from Syria hardly had any adaptation problems since North Cyprus was a secure, modern Muslim country. Rector Güven said they were about to sign a protocol with the University of Damascus which would contribute to an increase in student flow from Syria to EMU. Güven also added that accreditation problems did not exist.
The Rector briefed the delegation on the initiative to open a Department of Arab Studies under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences which would mean an increase in the Arabic sources in the library. Vice-rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri gave very brief explanations and expressed his hopes for an increase in the collaborations between EMU and Syria wishing the delegation would return back home with positive impressions on EMU. The Syrian delegation prior to visiting the library, took a campus tour. |
